Neck lift in Chicago
What is
Neck Contouring?
- Neck contouring is a cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance of the neck by addressing excess fat, muscle laxity, and loose skin. This is commonly performed for individuals who wish to remove a double chin, or desire a more defined or youthful neck contour.
- Common reasons to seek out a neck contouring procedure include:
- Sagging neck skin
- Double chin
- Drooping jawline
- Limited jawline definition
The Consultation
- During your visit, Dr. Shastri will start by asking what your goals are regarding your neck and jawline. Following a thorough analysis, he will discuss the ways in which he may be able to help realize your goals while still preserving a natural, balanced facial appearance. Image modification can be done in real time with your photographs to help make sure you are both on the same page about what a realistic outcome may look like. Dr. Shastri will take the time to make sure you feel heard and are confident in the surgical plan.
The Procedure
– Each surgery is unique and custom tailored to a patient’s individual goals. In general, the procedure consists of the following steps
o Liposuction: Excess fat under the chin and neck are suctioned out with a thin tube (called a cannula) through small incisions under the chin and behind the ears
o Neck lift: Through a small incision at the natural crease under the chin, the muscle layers of the neck are tightened and repositioned. The neck skin is then redraped for a smoother and defined appearance.
o These steps can combined with chin or jawline implants to provide further projection and definition in accordance with a patient’s goals
Neck Contouring Recovery
Recovery from a neck lift can vary somewhat depending on the specific procedures performed and individual factors, but here are some general aspects of what to expect:
Immediate Post-Procedure: Right after the neck lift, you will likely have bandages or dressings around your face and neck to minimize swelling and support the healing tissues. There might also be drainage tubes to prevent fluid buildup.
Swelling and Bruising: Swelling and bruising are common after a neck lift. This can be significant in the first few days but usually begins to improve within a week or two. Keeping your head elevated and applying cold compresses as directed by your surgeon can help reduce swelling.
Pain and Discomfort: Pain and discomfort are also typical after surgery, but your surgeon will prescribe pain medications to manage this. Most people find that the pain decreases significantly within a few days.
Activity Restrictions: You will likely need to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for a few weeks to allow your body to heal properly. Dr. Shastri will provide specific guidelines on when you can resume normal activities.
Follow-Up Visits: You will have follow-up appointments with Dr. Shastri to monitor your healing progress. During these visits, any stitches or drains may be removed, and Dr. Shastri can address any concerns you may have.
Results: Initial results will be visible once the swelling subsides, but it may take several weeks to months for the full results of the neck lift to become apparent as the tissues settle and heal.
Long-Term Care: It’s important to follow your Dr. Shastri’s instructions for post-operative care carefully to ensure optimal healing and results. This may include wearing compression garments, avoiding sun exposure, and using recommended skincare products.
Every individual’s experience with recovery can be different, so it’s essential to communicate openly with Dr. Shastri and our staff about any concerns or questions you have during the recovery period.
